Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner
ANC 3/4G-01
Serving the neighborhoods of Hawthorne and Barnaby Woods
Priorities
Resident Engagement
I see the role of an ANC Commissioner as one that not only facilitates and advocates for residents but also actively works to resolve issues, foster meaningful discussions, and connect community members with essential services. I am dedicated to engaging residents in the ongoing operations and discussions of the ANC. To ensure that decisions made for the Single Member District are well-informed, I will prioritize diverse perspectives and champion inclusivity in all ANC activities.
Transportation and Connectivity
I am committed to fostering a walkable, livable, and safe community. ANC 3/4G-01 is conveniently located within walking distance of nearby schools, businesses, and restaurants along Connecticut Avenue. Safe pedestrian travel and access to a variety of transportation options are crucial for connecting residents to activities that encourage active and healthy lifestyles, as well as supporting local businesses.
Education
As a former DCPCS and DCPS mom, I understand how vital it is for families to have access to excellent neighborhood schools and for the community to support them. I will continue to advocate for Lafayette Elementary School, ensuring it receives the necessary budget, staff, and resources for success. Additionally, I will continue to support natural grass playing fields and clean, sanitary school grounds and play areas across all schools.
A Thriving Connecticut Avenue
We are fortunate to live near the Connecticut Avenue business corridor, and as an ANC Commissioner, I am dedicated to helping it thrive, but I believe the ANC can do more to attract and retain businesses. I will work closely with Chevy Chase Main Street, engage frequently with business owners, advocate for a bus route connecting our neighborhoods to the civic core, and support housing density aligned with community preferences. The recent closure of a wonderful, woman and minority-owned business due to lack of foot traffic underscores the need for these and other proactive steps. A thriving commercial district must also be safe and clean. I have a strong relationship with MPD 2nd District and I'm committed to advocating for public safety. Rodents and commercial waste are also urgent hazards and I will continue engaging with residents and agencies to make sure cleanliness is addressed.
Conserving Rock Creek Park
The proximity to Rock Creek Park and its surrounding tributaries is one of the greatest assets of ANC 3/4G-01. Living near the park offers numerous benefits, including better physical and mental well-being, as well as safe habitats for diverse plant and wildlife species. It's a jewel that we are committed to preserving for future generations, and we can work together to preserve this fantastic resource.
Coalition Building
Recent events highlight the need for our community to collaborate with broader coalitions in Wards 3 and 4, as well as throughout DC, to tackle systemic issues. Ongoing inequities in housing, transportation, healthcare, education, environmental justice, and other areas threaten DC’s ability to thrive. Strengthening the ANC's leadership, particularly through the RASE committee's goals, will help us address these disparities and promote social equality, driving positive change in our community and across DC.
