Impacting Our Community for the Better

I take pride in my work as your Commissioner. Since taking office, I have achieved results on pressing issues facing our community and D.C. - I've listed just a few of them below. I am proud of these accomplishments and look forward to continuing my work for you!

Advocating for a PFAS-safe Environment and a Clean DC

Led the ANC in passing (7-0) a resolution advocating for natural grass playing fields and a PFAS-safe environment. Passed another resolution and joined a Ward 5 ANC and DC environmental activists in supporting the closure and removal of the National Engineering Products polluting chemical facility in Ivy City.

Advocating for our Kids and Schools

Collaborated with Commissioners, Ward 4 ANCs and education groups, on a resolution opposing the proposed relocation of Lafayette’s Pre-K4 program, urging the Mayor to instead establish the Military Road Academy as a citywide Pre-K program. Passed a resolution advocating for proper transportation for students with special needs.

Ensuring Community Voices are Heard

  • Joined 32nd Street neighbors to prevent DDOT from locating a bike share station on their street, while successfully advocating for a proposed station at Pinehurst Circle, ensuring each location met community preferences.

  • Addressed major sidewalk buckling on Chestnut Street and successfully urged DDOT to fix it quickly, resolving an issue that had previously gone unaddressed despite neighbors' earlier attempts to have it addressed.

  • Collaborating with Wyndale Street residents, we addressed light pollution, leading to reduced brightness and fixture height from DDOT.

  • I have consistently advocated for traffic improvements around Pinehurst Circle, organizing community walk-throughs of dangerous streets that resulted in the installation of a new HAWK signal at Western Avenue and Pinehurst Circle.

  • Worked with 28th Street neighbors to prevent DDOT’s initial proposal for a 105-foot bio-retention pit that would have eliminated homeowner parking spaces.

  • Fought against a developer's public space permit to pave over a green, open space paper alley adjacent to a Rock Creek tributary, standing in support of Barnaby Street neighbors.

Protecting Our Bus Infrastructure

Fought to prevent Chevy Chase from becoming a transportation desert by drafting and unanimously passing a resolution addressing WMATA’s proposed changes under the Better Bus Network, urging the reinstatement of the E6 route, and writing to WMATA Chairman Randy Clarke and the Board of Directors to reconsider cuts to our area.

Advocating for Our Budget Needs

Issued a comprehensive budget request letter to Ward 3 and 4 Councilmembers urging funding for overlooked community needs, including stormwater management in Barnaby Woods, a brick-and-mortar senior center in Ward 3, and traffic safety measures in high-risk areas of our ANC.

Ensuring Fair, Transparent Processes

Held the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) and the Office of Planning (OP) accountable by demanding a robust process to evaluate civic core development proposals, urging DMPED to extend the surplus hearing deadline for the Civic Core project to enhance community engagement, requesting clarification from OP on the proposed Connecticut Avenue zoning from OP, and urging DMPED to create a process to help neighbors navigate the OurRFP process.

Building Community Engagement

Led the redesign of ANC meetings to enhance community involvement and created a Public Comments Form on the ANC’s website for direct input on resolutions and agenda items.

Focusing on Critical Needs

Implemented one of the ANC's most successful committees, the Racial and Social Equity (RASE) Standing Committee - learn about our work here - and was instrumental in forming the ANC’s newly established Transportation Committee. You can learn about their important work here.
